Web Hosting? Domain Transfer?

Okay, I’ve asked this question once before.. But never got a straight answer. Just websites, and more websites…
So… I purchased a Domain (www.yourname.com) from godaddy.com
Now.. I need hosting right?
Okay. Well i’m trying to find a FREE or cheap ($10 or less/a month) webhosting. That will allow me to keep my (www.yourname.com) without any subdomain.
Can I do that? If so what are the sites?
Thank you soooooo much in advance! I’ve had a registered domain for the longest, but can’t set up a site, and its soo frustrating. Thanks again.

To clarify, you want to transfer your domain. Correct? If so, just look for a new site such as Yahoo! or Network Solutions. Go to the homepage and sign up to transfer the domain.

ACtually, I do believe that you get a month or so free of hosting with GoDaddy if you bought a domain from them. (Although, this could be a little outdated.) Hosting is an option provided by them, and my be included in your purchase. I hope you understand this. LOok around at GoDaddy’s site, they have one of the cheapest (legit) hosting, unless you wanted to set up your own server, which would require immense programming knowledge (MySQL, Ruby, HTML, CSS, and a server-side scripting language, such as PHP or ASP.NET). If you do know how to program these, set up your own server, as it will save you money in the long run.

Yup, most people have websites/domains setup like this. I use http://www.webhostingbuzz.com
Basically, most hosting places will allow you to do this. After you sign up for your account, they will instruct you to change your nameservers on your domain. To do this, login to godaddy, select the domain (advanced details) and on the left about half-way down the page you will see Nameservers. Just click manage, update them and you should be good to go!

I would recommend Just Host as I was in your position over a year ago having bought a domain with no web hosting. The prices are just about the lowest I have seen (do not go with free web hosting).

OK, you are right to identify that domain registration and webhosting are two separate things, however to keep things simple, GoDaddy do provide hosting services, and they even offer simple hosting for free sometimes depending on their special offers at the time..
I have .com domains and .info domains registered with GoDaddy, and .co.uk domains with 1and1. But my hosting is with a separate company because I shopped around – if you only plan for the one domain, then I think GoDaddy would be as good as any other, but if you plan multiple domains, consider an ‘unlimited’ hosting service (I use webhostingpad) which will allow you to add as many domains as you like at no additional charge. You want a straight answer? here’s a straight answer.
You do need a webhost to host your site on now. There are LOTS of them out there. Some of them are really good, and some of them are really bad: http://www.webhostingreviews.com/just-host-reviews.htm
With so many hosts out there, it comes down to personal choice. What are YOU looking for?
Based on your question, it seems like you are new to webhosting. For you, I think you should go with SpruceHost…

As long as you have a domain name, you can get free webhosting. I use 000Webhost to host my site for free: http://www.000webhost.com/283682.html
It has lots of tools, features, and templates to build a nice website quickly and easily. It will work for you as long as you don’t need hundreds of gigabites of space. For most regular websites it should be fine.

I don’t suggest Go Daddy hosting. I mean, they are great for domains but not for hosting. You can definitely find a lot of web hosting companies priced at $10/ month or less. Of course you can keep your domain. Just change its DNS.

Yes, you need hosting. Here’s what you need to do:
1. Sign up at one of these web hosts: http://buywebspacetoday.com/recommended-web-hosts/ These are established web hosts with mid-level plans typically in the $6 to $8/month range, although they can get as low as $3 depending on which plan you choose.
2. Find out your web host’s name servers. These are a pair of Internet addresses, e.g., ns1.host.com and ns2.host.com. Usually these can be found in your control panel.
3. Go to your GoDaddy account and edit the name servers. Input the addresses you found in step 2. Wait a few hours while the new addresses propagate, and there you go! You can use your registered domain with your new hosting account.
