When you subscribe to a new host, they will usually do the transfer free of charge.

Nope. For instance, I would recommend signing up with http://www.GotHosting.org and they’ll send you an email with dns addresses that you just use to update your dns servers wherever you bought the domain. So no transfer required. The support at GotHosting.org will help if needed.
Hope that helps.

no, all you have to do is edit the dns records for your domain to point to your new host.
eg: ns1@yourserverhost.net
normally when you transfer a domain you are moving it to a new service provider. when you transfer, you will also have to renew it for at least 1 extra year on top of the time left on the domain. you may also be able to push a domain for free to a new service provider if they let you do that. depends on who you transfer with.
if you need hosting i can help…

No, you can just change your dns to something like:
ns1@bluehost.net
ns2@bluehost.net
The details of instructions will be sent by your new web host via your email address instantly after signing up .
If you’re looking for the best service on the web, take a look at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . As an experienced webmaster I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. Their service is really great and easy to use.

If you already bought the domain name you can leave it where you bought it, and just change the nameservers. You don’t actually have to “transfer” the domain name itself, you just have to make it resolve with the new web host. I would recommend you talk to the people at Hostamina.com – they will help you through the whole process.
You should avoid hosts that offer “unlimited” space/bandwidth as this is somewhat of a scam. You should also avoid hosts that offer ridiculous amounts of space/bandwidth, such as 10GB space for only $5/month. Hosts like this overload and oversell servers, and are bad news for anyone who wants reliability.
You should also avoid answers here that send you to review sites, as those sites make money off commissions and rank hosts based on how much money they’ll get paid, not on how good they are. You should avoid answers here that look like they are affiliate links as well, for the same reason.
Hostamina.com is exactly what you need. Support is great! They will help you set up your website, and they will provide you with any help you need. Note that I am not using an affiliate link or sending you to a review site.
